Getting to Galway

Galway is accessible to international visitors by air, with a number of airports offering convenient access to the city and county. Galway Airport is a small regional airport, with flights to the U.K and Dublin, while Knock Airport in neighbouring County Mayo is linked to several U.K destinations, while Shannon International Airport is the principal gateway into the west of Ireland, with flights to the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and the United States. Regular Bus Services link Galway with destinations around the island of Ireland, including Cork, Limerick, Dublin and Athlone. Galway is also linked by rail to Dublin and Limerick. Once you arrive in Galway, you will find a number of scheduled bus routes and a plethora of taxis in order to get around the city.

Air 

 

Three principal airports are within easy reach of Galway:

 

 

  • Galway Airport: A small, regional airport just 8km from Galway City. Aer Arann are the airport's largest operators, with a number of scheduled services to Dublin, the United Kingdom and Northern France.   • Knock International Airport: Located within 90 minutes drive from Galway, Knock International Airport is an alternative entrance point for visitors to the 'City of the tribes'. Ryanair operate scheduled services to destinations in the United Kingdom and Spain, while both BMI Baby and Aer Lingus serve destinations in the U.K.

  • Shannon International Airport: Located just over an hour from Galway, Shannon International Airport is a convenient entrance point for visitors into the Mid-West region of Ireland. With a range of scheduled services to the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and the United States, you can access Galway City from the world over. Airlines serving the airport include Ryanair, Aer Lingus, Aer Arann, Continental Airlines, and Air Transat. Rail

 

Ceannt Station in Galway City is just off Eyre Square in the centre of the city. Irish Rail/Iarnrod Eireann run a regular train service to Dublin stopping off at major towns. Bus

 

Bus Éireann operate a number of scheduled bus routes from Galway's Ceannt Station, just off Eyre Square. These include services to Dublin, Limerick, Waterford and Athlone.
